Paul Speer, MD, is Associate Professor with the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.  He completed his medical education and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport.  Following residency, he completed a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Magee-Women’s Hospital at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in 2005. 

Dr. Speer was in private practice in Nashville, Tennessee from 2005-2008.  In 2008, he returned to Pittsburgh after accepting a faculty position with the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences.   Since returning to Pittsburgh, Dr. Speer has been active in many roles as a clinician and educator.  His clinical duties involve obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound and prenatal diagnosis, where he also participates in the education of medical students, residents and fellows.   His clinical interests are fetal anomalies, placental abnormalities, Doppler in ultrasound and intrauterine growth restriction.  Prior to joining the Office of Medical Education as Director of Clinical Education, Dr. Speer worked alongside OMED to introduce innovative and engaging courses to the UPSOM curriculum, including ultrasound in medical anatomy and a mini-elective on ultrasound correlation with the physical examination.  He serves as course director, coordinator, and faculty participant in several medical school courses. 

In addition to his clinical and educational duties, Dr. Speer serves as an Advisory Dean with the UPSOM Office of Student Affairs, and is a member of several UPSOM committees.
