Dr. Schuh has in-depth experience in both program management and evaluation research.  His program management includes responsibility for directing projects at the national, state and local levels as does his evaluation background.   Dr. Schuh received his doctorate in Planning and Program Evaluation from the University of Pittsburgh School of Education in 2004 and his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the Wichita State University in 1970.  Dr. Schuh has held positions in the Department of Psychiatry, Graduate School of Public Health, and the Department of Administrative and Policy Studies in the School of Education where he has served as Co-Investigator or Principle Investigator.  Dr. Schuh has worked on a number of University collaborations with community-based nonprofit service organizations and the Allegheny County Health Department. 

Dr. Schuh’s academic responsibilities include teaching graduate courses on evaluation and research methods, as well as organizational and leadership development, consulting with faculty and staff on methodological and program development issues.  Dr. Schuh is a reviewer for the journals American Journal of Evaluation and Planning and Program Evaluation.  He also reviews proposals for the National Science Foundation.

Prior to coming to the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Schuh worked on nationally funded evaluation and technical assistant contracts for a Washington, D.C.-based consulting company for ten years.  His earlier career culminated with his appointment as Executive Director of a Community Action Agency in the Midwest employing 257 full time staff to implement 17 operational projects. For this service he received the Urban Service Award from the Executive Office of the President in 1968.
